Acne Vulgaris in Adult Females


Abstract
This study :was undertaken to evaluate the characteristics of acne vulgaris in adult females. Author examined 128 adult female acne patients aged 20 to 52 by the means of interviews and inspections. The results were as follows:
1. In the group that acne vulgaris began in adolescence and persist in adult life, the age of onset of acne vulgaris was later than general adolescent acne vulgaris, and the acne lesions were relatively severe.
2. Premenstrual exacerbations were observed in 43.8% of patients.
3. The variations in lesions of acne vulgaris related to pregnancy were seen in 14 patients and the variations were largely observed in early pregnancy.
4. Acne lesions¢¥ were improved in 2 patients and aggravated in 7 patients during use of oral contraceptives.
5. In 46.9% of patients the acne lesions were aggravated under the mental or emotional stress. 6. The patients who had occupations were 44.5%.
7. Seasonal variations in acne vulgaris lesions were seen in 39.1% of patients, acne lesions were
generally aggravated in summer seasons and improved in winter seasons.
8. In more severe acne the acne lesions were distributed in larger areas than in mild acne. 9. Positive family histories were obtained in 51.6% of patients.
10. Chronic indigestion was presented in 29.7%of patients, constipation in 32.0% and the insomnia in 19.5%.
